Audience: Directors of Education, Superintendents, Assistant and Associate Superintendents, Directors of Curriculum and Professional Learning, School Administrators, Teacher Leaders and all other system change leaders involved in planning and guiding full scale assessment for learning initiatives.

Institute Outcomes:

During this two and a half day session, participants will:

• consider how leaders can speak confidently about the goals and progress of their assessment initiative to a variety of audiences, including boards, constituents, teachers, associations, parents, and others
• examine recent and pertinent research summaries
• identify common barriers that block assessment for learning system initiatives
• plan for proactively addressing and transforming these barriers
• think of ways to provide proof of system learning
• consider the hallmarks of a great system-wide assessment for learning plan, including a professional development plan
• plan for next steps

Dr. Anne Davies and Sandra Herbst will:

• present key research findings and articulate imperatives that underlie assessment in these times
• share actual classroom and school video footage for analysis of ways to involve students and adult learners in the assessment process
• share stories from their experiences of working with districts and schools across North America and abroad
• provide learning strategies that can be used in a variety of contexts
• provide access to a customized website related to the Institute
